BTEC FIRST AWARD IN BUSINESS STUDIES

This course is particularly suitable for hard working organised students who enjoy doing their own research and coursework.

The qualification is made up of 75% coursework and 25% external exam, equivalent to 1 GCSE.

The business world comprises an enormous variety of different careers.  The BTEC First Award aims to give you a practical understanding of what ‘being in business' entails and it will help you to develop the knowledge and skills needed when considering entering employment or starting your own business.  Topics covered include Enterprise in the Business World, Finances for Business (external on screen assessment), Principles of customer service and Recruitment, Secretarial and Employment.

Whatever career or job you choose to do in the future, you will be using knowledge gained from business lessons.

The work you do in Business Studies is based on real business problems.  You will develop the skills all people involved in the world of business and work need.  For example you have the opportunity to take part in Mock Interviews and Customer Services situations.

Industrial visits and Guest Speakers are an important part of the course and in previous years students have visited Chester Zoo and Arthur Chatwin Ltd for factory tours and customer service workshops.

The BTEC First Award in Business may lead onto AS/A2 Level Business or BTEC National Business Level 3 in the 6th Form.  Both of the above are ideal qualifications for those students who want a broad background in business and particular for careers such as Accountancy, Law, Advertising, Marketing, Personnel and Management.
