Malbank IMPACT Book Club
As you may be aware, last year we established the IMPACT Community Group as a way of keeping people up-to-date with our Community Arts Programme here at Malbank. The group is completely free to join and members are regularly sent emails relating to our Cinema Nights and other Performing Arts related evenings. As part of this process we also asked about other arts related areas members would be interested in. One of the most popular responses has been to form a Book Club.
As you may be aware, some years we established the IMPACT Community Group as a way of keeping people up-to-date with our Community Programme here at Malbank. The group is completely free to join and members are regularly sent emails relating to our Cinema Nights and other Performing Arts related evenings.
One of our regular events is the Impact Book Club which we run in partnership with Costa Coffee, Nantwich, who kindly provide us with the use of the store once a month, after it has closed to the public. Costa have also generously agreed to provide a member of staff for the evening so that we can purchase refreshments whilst we meet.
Our next meeting will take place on 28th February 2012, 7.00 – 8.30pm and we will be looking at Never Let Me go by Kazuro Ishiguro, all are welcome
Our meetings are very relaxed and informal so if you want to share your joy of literature with like minded individuals then please come and join us. impact-community-group

South Cheshire Youth Sinfonia
South Cheshire Youth Sinfonia is a String Chamber Orchestra made up of players aged between 13 and 19. It is one of Cheshire’s Youth Music Ensembles and is supported financially by Cheshire East Council. The group rehearses on Friday evenings during term time in Malbank School Hall from 6.30 – 7.30pm and usually works towards at least one concert per term, often providing it’s members opportunities to perform solo. Many of the group also play with the Cheshire Youth Orchestra or Training Orchestra but enjoy the different environment a smaller group offers.
Apart from regular concerts recent activity has also taken the group on residential courses, into recording studios and into competitions including at the Royal Northern College of Music. Recommended entry level for this group is Grade 4+, but we welcome anyone who’d like to sit in on a rehearsal to come and have a go. There is no formal audition process.
The South Cheshire Junior Sinfonia meets from 6 – 6.30pm also on Fridays during term time and is a training group accepting all players of around Grade 1 up to Grade 4.

Darren Gough and the Collier's Team Visits Malbank
Darren Gough together with Collier’s Powerful Welsh Cheddar are sending four schools off for a dancing masterclass. Here you can follow their progress as each school puts their pupils through their paces and then assembles together a team of dancers to compete in the finals of the Supreme Collier’s Dancing competition to be crowned our champions of the ballroom floor
A Message from Darren Gough
We had a fantastic time today visiting the competing schools. You’ve shown me that you are ready with some real fancy footwork, although I didn’t do too bad myself. Last week I saw how Malbank were doing and its going to be a very competitive competition. I’m really looking forward to seeing you all again.

Olympic Legend Pays a Visit
Five-time world karate champion Geoff Thompson made a guest appearance at Malbank School. It was during a Student Leadership Conference at Malbank as part of its involvement in the North West effort to promote the London 2012 Olympic Games.
Geoff is known as one of the greatest martial arts competition fighters of his generation and inspired Britain’s dominance of the 80’s and 90’s. He led the Great Britain team to three world team titles and was named the MVP (Most Valuable Performer) on each of those occasions. He hosted a seminar on ‘sporting excellence’, which is hoped will encourage youngsters to get training for the Games.
Students from Sandbach School, Sandbach High School and Brine Leas High School were also involved. Large version of image is also available.

2011 Ofsted Report now available to read online...
On June 3rd & 4th the Ofsted team returned to judge the progress that we have made since our last inspection. I am delighted to say that the team, led by HMI Peter Toft, were very impressed by our students, our staff and our Governors. There are many very rewarding comments in the report but the one which I personally enjoyed is that we are working “with determination and creativity and involving all students in this journey”. After all, our students are at the centre of everything we do. Please visit our Ofsted Report page to view either a copy of the 'Snapshots' or full report.

Virtual Learning on the VLE
Great progress has been made on the Malbank School Virtual Learning Environment (VLE). The system otherwise known as a Connected Learning Community (CLC) is essentially a web site (or equivalent networked learning structure) that provides a number of basic functions deemed valuable in the learning process. A set of tools and navigation aids are provided, with the aim of placing any online educational materials into a clear, organised structure. Such an "environment" will provide students with easy access to course documents, lecture notes, online courseware, questionnaires and communication tools.
