Freeway is a cross border school
paper made on the Internet. Freeway started in 1997
with contributions from Bishop Heber School in Cheshire,
Mose Bianchi in Italy and Parkskolan in Sweden. They
were joined in 2003 by Gimnazia Romain Rolland in Bulgaria
and Malbank.
The project goals were written
by the students and teachers and include:
- to encourage European students
to develop cross national links
- to use cultural differences
as a form of educational enrichment and unity
- to maximise the use of information
technology through the Internet
- to establish the newspaper
as an integral part of the schools' long term curriculum
- to develop student
centred responsibility for their newspaper
Up to January 2006 there have
been 26 editions. Every edition seems to be longer than
the one before, the present edition carrying 59 articles
ranging from the dangers of bird flu, through Britain's
"special relationship" with America (does
it exist?) to the exploits of Valentino Rossi on his
Yamaha.
To access Freeway click on the link. You will reach
the current edition. If you want to read back editions
click on "Back issues". If you click on "Search
this site" you will access a search engine that
will allow you to use key words to search all of the
issues for resource material. You will find this invaluable
for international citizenship material about up to date
issues.
