Instituto Pare Vitoria, Alcoy, Spain
and Malbank School and Sixth Form College.
Wishing to give our pupils every possibility to experience the language and culture of Spain first hand, in March 2006 we decided to go about setting up a Spanish Exchange. Through an exchange website, we got in touch with the Instituto Pare Vitoria in Alocy who were looking to do the same for their pupils.
In June 2006 we approached our parents and pupils in Years 9 to 13 to ask for 15 pupils to take part, and invited the Spanish pupils to visit us in October.
So hosts were organised, dates were set, we were ready to go.
One rainy Friday evening at the start October, Miss Hollis and 3 pupils went to Liverpool airport to greet our visitors with a big "BIENVENIDOS A MALBANK" sign.
The week flew by and both the Spanish and English pupils took part in a range of activities in order for them to sample parts of British life. We visited Alton Towers , Conwy Castle and the Great Orme, had a tour of a Police Station and went on a trip to Liverpool to visit the Beatles Museum and do some shopping!
The Spanish pupils also joined in lessons with our pupils on two mornings to get a flavour of British school life.
The pupils who took part in the exchange this year have made some good friends, and both pupils and teachers have gained a lot from the experience by exchanging ideas, language and ways of life.
