Maths is a HANDY thing to know!

Mathematics is important in every day life!

Maths is everywhere. Without realising, we use maths every day, and it plays a part in nearly all our daily activities. Everytime we pick up the phone, use the internet, manage money, decide to take a risk, check the weather report, go to the doctors or travel anywhere, maths plays its part.

When you buy a car, follow a recipe, or decorate your home, you're using math principles. People have been using these same principles for thousands-even millions-of years, across countries and continents.

Maths can help us to shop wisely, buy the right insurance, remodel a home within a budget, understand population growth, or even bet on the horse with the best chance of winning the race.

Not only is the beauty of maths everywhere around us, but having an understanding of it helps enormously in day-to-day life. Have you ever been to the supermarket and not known whether it is cheaper to buy one kind of pasta, at 79p for 500 grams, say, or a 750 gram bag of another brand at £1.15? Being able to do some simple mental arithmetic would help here.

Do well in maths = increased career opportunities.

Many careers require a solid understanding of maths. Doctors, lawyers, accountants and other professionals use maths on a daily basis. As do builders, plumbers, engineers and managers. Maths is a critical skill for many professions and opens up a world of opportunity for you.
