Religious Education at Malbank School encourages personal development, spiritual growth, and social action.
"RE is a mirror through which pupils can understand themselves and society, and a window showing an alternative vision." |

Welcome to the RE Dept.
RE at Malbank School is seen as an academic subject in its strictest sense but we also encourage reflection and debate in order to help students on their own spiritual journey.
The department consists of: |
- Mrs L Putt - Curriculum Leader, RE
- Mrs K Hoey- Teacher of RE
- Mrs M Tyrer - Teacher of RE

Examples of good teaching practice
- Assessment in RE allows pupils as well as teachers to take responsibility for their own learning . Pupils are assessed according to two attainment targets in RE; Learning about religion and Learning from religion. Pupils are set tasks which are then given a RE level for both attainment targets. Pupils have a copy of the level sheet in their book for reference. They are also given the opportunity to record what they felt they did well at, what they need to improve, and record three targets for their next topic. This information is recorded on a core assignment sheet for each assessment and stored in the pupils own folder which travels with them throughout KS3, recording and monitoring their progression.
- The department keeps a folder of exemplar work from pupils which can be viewed by parents, staff and pupils alike.
- Pupils are given the opportunity to reflect upon what they have learnt in lessons. They engage in debate and discussion over many kinds of issues. KS3 as well as KS4 pupils are given the opportunity to ask and debate philosophical questions.
- Spirituality is an essential part of RE and contributes greatly towards a sense of well being for pupils. The RE department is planning to develop this further by creating a multi-faith garden in our forthcoming "outdoor classroom" in conjunction with other departments.
