We are looking to appoint an outstanding Head of Maths to lead our team of excellent maths staff. The successful candidate will be an outstanding classroom practitioner with a track record of facilitating students effectively to ensure that they make excellent progress.  They should have some experience of impact driven leadership in a previous role.

Hours of work:  27.5 hours per week, 38 weeks (term-time plus Inset Days as required)

Contract:  A temporary contract for 1 year in the first instance will be offered as the funding is linked individual pupil funding.

We require three enthusiastic individuals to join our Learning Support Team to support the progress of SEND students.  Our students have varying needs including Autism, Asperger’s Syndrome and Dyslexia.  Previous experience of supporting students with special educational needs and/or literacy or numeracy programmes will be advantageous.  The successful candidates will be ambitious for the students, the department and actively support the culture and values of the school.  Malbank School and Sixth Form College is proud of its mix of traditional values and innovation.

The SEN/Connect Department

Our SEN/IRC department consists of the SENCo, Connect Manager, a specialist teacher and 14 Learning Support Assistants. Our English department is well-organised and well-resourced; we currently have a wide variety of resources to support literacy, numeracy, motor skills, handwriting speed and typing tuition.

In the most recent OFSTED report (November 2018) the department was specifically commented on and the report stated ‘ Pupils who have an education, health and care plan (EHCP) are well supported … The management of the support provided for pupils who have an education, health and care plans is effective. When inspectors checked these plans, they found that school leaders monitor them closely. Their actions ensure that these pupils are typically taught and supported effectively and make good academic progress. Similarly, the pastoral and health aspects of these plans are set and reviewed effectively. Other pupils with special education needs and/or disabilities (SEND) attend school regularly and staff support their pastoral needs effectively’.

We are a friendly, forward-looking, and co-operative department where we share good practice, support each other and where every member of the department’s experience and input is valued. Continual professional development of colleagues is very important to us and staff are encouraged to attend relevant training courses throughout the year. Design and Technology Technician - Closing Date: 28th September 2021

As Design and Technology Technician is required as soon as possible: part-time (10 hours a week)

The opportunity has arisen to employ a first-class Design and Technology Technician with the ability to work flexibly with both staff and pupils

Design and Technology is taught by five specialist teachers who form a friendly and co-operative team.   Three are Product Design and Electronics teachers, two teach Textiles and Food Technology. The department teaches Design and Technology to A-level. GCSE Design Technology and GCSE Food Preparation and Nutrition. At Key Stage 3 Design and Technology is timetabled for 2 hours each week.  Within this time the demands of the National Curriculum are met in all four major areas.  Classes are kept below 20 and are based on mixed ability tutor groups.   The department benefits from technician support in both Food and Product Design areas.

We need someone who is:

  • Is trained on wood and metal machinery
  • Is willing to learn about CAD/CAM and PCB manufacturing
  • Can undertake safety inspections and order materials and equipment
  • Willing to work as part of a team and contribute towards departmental development;

Facilities and Resources

The Science Department is housed in its own block of eleven well-equipped laboratories with associated preparation and staff work areas. We also have a discrete ICT facility within the department. Staffing currently stands at five full-time posts and six part time posts. All science teachers contribute to the teaching of A-level. The teaching of Science is enhanced by the excellent support of three technicians.

Teaching and Learning

In Key Stage 3, the Science Department uses its own scheme of work that is supported by a series of KS3 resources. In Year 7, classes are taught in mixed ability form groups. In year 8 onwards, science is taught in ability groups. In Key Stage 4 our students have the options of studying AQA Trilogy, Foundation or Higher or separate Sciences which is part of our Options provision. Each group has its own assigned tutor who reports regarding pupil data for the group.

At A-level, the Sciences are both popular and successful. We offer courses in Biology, Chemistry and Physics (AQA). The number of groups in the sixth form varies from year to year. Groups are usually shared by staff.

Career development

The school has a track record of nurturing the professional development of staff.  The successful candidate will therefore be offered excellent professional development experiences.

Reports to: ICT Systems Development Manager

The team ICT team is currently made up of an ICT Systems Development Manager and an ICT Technician.
As well as supporting the whole school ICT Network of more than 600 desktop computers, 150 laptops and 20 servers the team also supports associated equipment and software, and assists with other non-IT related projects (such as Installation of CCTV, telephone systems etc.). Most of the desktops are situated in designated ICT teaching room's, however there are also a significant amount of desktop computers and laptop computers independently placed around the whole school and loaned out to students and staff. The school has an internal ICT network that gives every department direct access to education resources on the Internet and centrally stored disks. We are continuously working to improve the school's ICT network system.

The Governors are seeking to appoint a highly motivated, enthusiastic and creative professional to deliver a reprographic service for staff and pupils to maximise the efficient use of time by staff in the school. The successful candidate will be expected to use their creative skills to design and produce high quality documents / leaflets and letters for staff, students and parents in keeping with Malbank School’s professional image.  You should be a highly proficient user of Microsoft applications including Word, Excel, Publisher and PowerPoint. Previous experience of working in a reprographics department would be an advantage.

The post holder will need to be proactive and able to work under their own initiative as well as within a team.  You will report directly to the Office Manager and you will work with closely with the Administration Team.
